Julie Edwards

Pledge Class: 1989

Primary Instrument: Piano and Voice

How she became involved in SAI: "It was just what the girls who were serious about music did. One of the girls who was in every student organization in the Music Department told me I should join SAI.  There was also an older alumna in my church who encouraged me to join."

What SAI has brought her over the years: "Opportunities to get to know women I might not have gotten to know otherwise.  As a pianist and vocalist, I might not have had the chance to spend time with the band girls had it not been for SAI.  Also, I've developed lifelong friendships with women of other generations and backgrounds who are in the alumnae chapter.  Financially, SAI helped me go to graduate school.  I took out a Hazel E. Ritchey loan that gave me the cash to move to North Carolina and start school.  SAI also gives me the chance to do good as I take  part in music philanthropies through the many local and national projects.  Finally, SAI connects me to the art of music through our beautiful ritual ceremonies."
